Doug Brown

Doug joined Aviva in April 2021 as CEO of Insurance, Wealth & Retirement (formerly UK & Ireland Life). He is a member of the Group Executive Committee reporting to Aviva Group CEO, Amanda Blanc.

Doug has refreshed the strategy to deliver on the vision of becoming the go-to partner for the UK and Ireland’s financial wellbeing needs. He has restructured the business to focus on Aviva’s core business lines of Insurance, Wealth and Retirement.

Doug is the executive sponsor for the Aviva Balance community to support gender parity within the organisation. He also champions the Women’s Sponsorship Programme to accelerate the pipeline of women into senior leadership roles.

Before joining Aviva, Doug led Canada Life’s UK business as CEO for six years. Before this he was Canada Life’s UK Chief Operating Officer. 

Doug has held a number of other senior roles including Chief Operating Officer of Alico UK (subsidiary of AIG), Chief Executive Officer of Alico UK, Regional President of Alico (UK and Ireland), Head of Global, Bancassurance of Alico and Chief Risk Officer for Aviva Europe. He led AIG’s Employee Benefits Divisions in both the UK and Canada.

Doug qualified as a Fellow of the Canadian Institute of Actuaries and Fellow of the Society of Actuaries in 1997.
