France: Aviva, the new name for Abeille, Norwich Union, Victoire and CGU France

On 1 December, CGU France, the 5th largest general insurer in the French market, a subsidiary of Aviva plc, the world’s 7th biggest insurer and the 5th largest in Europe, is adopting the name Aviva.

On 1 December, CGU France, the fifth largest general insurer in the French market, a subsidiary of Aviva plc, the world’s seventh biggest insurer and among the five largest life companies in Europe, is adopting the name Aviva.

From today, Aviva will be the group’s new commercial brand in France and that of the majority of its subsidiaries which are coming together under the Aviva banner (see table below). The group will be adopting a new logo and a new visual identity. France, the group’s second biggest contributor in terms of life and pensions business, is the first major operational unit to adopt the Aviva name.

Bernard Pottier, Chairman of the Board of Aviva France, stated: "A new name, a new brand, a restatement of common values; Aviva is opening up a time of great promise for our group. The brand is not just a simple change: its aim is to support the operations of our networks in the field, to restate our strategic objectives and to express our values and positioning. All of our general agents, agency staff, life tied force and group staff, not to mention the brokers, will be pooling their professions and skills in the service of a common brand thanks to which they will be able to support one another."

It should be remembered that CGNU plc, the group holding company, became Aviva plc on 1 July and that, between now and 2003, 90% of the group’s world turnover will be brought together under the Aviva name either directly or under a brand specifically backing onto Aviva.
