UK: Norwich Union volunteers help NCH garden to flower

A team of green fingered volunteers from Norwich Union transformed a garden with ideas put forward from the young carers at the NCH Willows project in Kings Lynn on Friday 24 October 2003.

In June Norwich Union launched a five year, Ł1.4m partnership with NCH, the children’s charity to support, educate, and build the confidence of some of the UK’s most vulnerable young people. Offering staff members the chance to make a difference in their local communities by participating in staff volunteering is a key element of this partnership.

The Norwich Union volunteers will be creating a quiet area with flowerbeds and murals for the children and young people to have an area to read and chat. In addition to this they will design a barbecue area, a games area on tarmac, stepping-stones on the lawn and a herb garden.

Local businesses, including Citycare, Norwich; Glazewing Limited Waste Services, Dereham; Hewden Hire Centre, Kings Lynn; Kings Lynn and West Norfolk Borough Council; UGS Ltd, Little Melton; Dereham Coachways, Dereham; Thorns DIY, Norwich; Read Timber Limited, Norwich; Downham Garden Centre, Downham Market; and Tilemania, Norwich have all rallied round to help provide equipment and supplies.

Norwich Union’s head of sponsorship, David Czerwinski said: "This project will greatly enhance the life of the families at the project, giving our staff a real opportunity to make a difference and for local businesses to play an active part by supplying equipment and expertise."
