Three young people from the North Shore area will have a starring role at this year's Medibank International Tennis Tournament in Sydney. They are:
David Fenton from Killara
Catherine Noble from Wahroonga
Sally Rewell from Longueville
These three young people will join the team as part of the 120 Aviva Ballkids sponsored for the first time by one of Australia's leading financial institutions, Aviva.
These three young people were selected from hundreds of applicants from around New South Wales. All are tennis enthusiasts and play tennis regularly.
Like all Aviva Ballkids, this group trained hard to be successful throughout the trials. Top fitness is important for everyone on court, and these Aviva Ballkids employed a number of different sporting activities to get into shape, including fitness training for Sally Rewell and playing tennis for David Fenton.
All three Aviva Ballkids say they look forward to the experience of being part of the Medibank International 2006. David's inspiration for applying for an Aviva Ballkid place was his love of tennis and the opportunity to work with the world's best players.
This year, two Aviva Ballkids will be awarded A$500 in prize money for outstanding performance and conduct. The winners will also be invited to be Aviva Ballkids at the Australian Open 2006 in Melbourne.
The Aviva branded uniforms worn by each Ballkid will have a highly visible presence in every match played during the Sydney tournament in 2006.
Allan Griffiths, chief executive officer of Aviva, said Aviva has a large presence in NSW and it will be exciting for our customers and staff to see the Aviva logo on all courts throughout the tournament. Tennis holds a wide appeal in Australia and Aviva is delighted to support it through sponsorship.
I am delighted the Aviva Ballkids will play a focal part at the Medibank International. This tournament is an exciting beginning to the tennis year and you can be guaranteed to see some fierce competition, said Allan.
"One constant on-court presence in every match at the Medibank International will be the Aviva Ballkids, which is a perfect way to have our Aviva brand on show," he said.
