On 1 March 2006, Delta Lloyd is organising the pension vision conference "survival of the fittest" for company pension funds at Burgers Zoo in Arnhem. The results of a quantitative survey will be announced jointly by Fons de Poel (chairman for the day) and Laurens Roodbol (director group actuarial and risk management). This survey was carried out on behalf of Delta Lloyd by Intomart Gfk among employees and managers of company pension funds.

Delta Lloyd will show company pension funds where there are opportunities and points for improvement so as to be able to face the future with confidence.

Results of survey
One of the results is that 60% of employees are worried about their pensions. This puts pensions in third place among socio-economic issues after the cost of living and a less active government. Another important finding is that 30% of managers believe that it is untenable in the long term for company pension funds to remain totally independent. According to Laurens Roodbol: “It is striking that managers believe that a company pension fund is the best way to arrange pensions. However, employees can hardly tell the difference between a company pension fund, an occupational pension fund or a pension scheme run by an insurer.

“Managers also have a totally different view of how well employees understand the contents of their pension statements. Almost 70% of managers think that employees do not understand the contents of their pension statements whereas 60% of employees say that they do understand them.”

Programme
The conference offers an individual programme of interviews, speeches and discussions. Guests include Mickey Huibregtsen (former chairman of McKinsey & Company), Marcel Roele (scientific journalist, socio-biologist, political scientist and freelance writer) and Harry van Raaij (former chairman of PSV Eindhoven).
