Survey of vehicle check services gives HPI five star rating
HPI has been voted the 'best on the market' in a survey of vehicle history check services by Auto Car magazine. In a test of four vehicle checking brands, HPI came out on top as the only one to score a full five stars.
Auto Car trialled the vehicle checkers using a Golf GT TDi that had had a plate change, was a category C write-off and had a mileage discrepancy. HPI was the only one to identify all three faults and provide detailed information on all discrepancies, earning it full marks.

Auto Car's article also highlights the importance of used car buyers conducting a quality vehicle history check. Any unsuspecting consumer buying the Golf featured in the test would be putting their safety at risk. Plate changes are often used by criminals to hide a dodgy past and a category C write-off, while a mileage discrepancy puts the safety and condition of the vehicle in serious doubt.

The HPI Check is available to used car buyers at www.hpicheck.com or by calling 01722 422 422. The check costs Ł39.95 online and Ł42.95(1) via the call centre and will tell you if a used car you are interested in buying is currently recorded as stolen, has unpaid debt on it or has been 'written-off' by an insurance company. It will also tell you, if the information is available, the market value of the model of vehicle being checked.
The HPI Check now also includes a check against the National Mileage Register (NMR) database as standard(2). The service helps identify discrepant mileage readings in used vehicles being offered for sale.
The HPI Check is also the first to include a V5 Registration Document Check as standard.
The HPI Check includes the HPI Guarantee(3) which allows members of the public to claim compensation if the information provided by HPI is incorrect or incomplete. It does not cover used car valuations or mileage data.
The HPI Check hotline is open from 8.00am-8.00pm, Monday to Saturday and from 10.00am to 5.00pm on Sundays.
