RAC has secured a seven-year deal to provide roadside assistance to Motability - Europe's largest vehicle fleet.
The contract to 2014 was agreed after a three-month, competitive tender process, which extends the existing nine-year relationship between RAC and Motability Operations - covering approximately 430,000 leased vehicles for disabled customers.
Ashley Sylvester, operations director, Motability Operations says: "RAC have continually innovated over the last nine years, their focus on exceeding contracted service levels while delivering exceptional value for money made RAC the partner of choice."
RAC's managing director, Debbie Hewitt, says: "Being selected to provide roadside assistance to Motability must be one of the highest accolades in the fleet industry.
"The only way to maintain such a relationship is to meet the toughest service standards in the fleet business every time. I'm glad to say that we've done that and look forward to working in partnership with Motability Operations, for the next seven years.
"This seven year contract closely follows last years six year contract with Lex Vehicle Leasing - and reflects how RAC is fast becoming a true strategic partner of choice."
RAC attends about 110,000 Motability breakdowns per year. The average response time to a breakdown in 2005-2006 was 38 minutes, against a target time of 42 minutes.
About Motability
Motability is the UK's leading car scheme for disabled people. It provides affordable, convenient, trouble-free motoring to disabled customers and their families. The scheme is directed and overseen by Motability, a national charity, which also provides financial assistance to customers, who would otherwise be unable to afford the mobility solution they need, Motability Operations is the company that operates the Motability car schemes, under contract to Motability.
In the UK, over 1.7 million disabled people qualify for the higher rate mobility component of disability living allowance and over 16,000 qualify for the war pensioners' mobility supplement. Currently, almost 450,000 disabled people have chosen to have their allowances paid to the scheme to meet the cost of having a car, powered wheelchair or scooter through contract hire or hire purchase schemes.
Today the scheme purchases over 7% of all new cars, sold in the UK, via a national network of over 4,000 Motability dealers.
