Automatic alerts of a car crash within minutes of it happening, online Duty of Care reports and immobilising vehicles via satellite are some of the latest technical innovations Norwich Union has introduced to help brokers offer the very latest telematics-based insurance for business vehicles.
Teaming up with MetaSystem, one of Europe's leading security and information solution manufacturers, Norwich Union has enhanced its existing telematics insurance policy, Fleetwise Care, to give fleet managers greater control over their vehicles and costs.
Crash Detection identifies the time, place, driver and severity of a crash through a sensor attached to the telematics device, which monitors the impact force exerted on the vehicle in an accident. Remote Immobilisation now enables managers to stop unauthorised drivers using a vehicle, so preventing misuse or theft.
In the event of a serious crash, Fleetline - Norwich Union's 24-hour incident management team - will contact either the fleet manager or the driver to offer vehicle assistance.
The enhanced Fleetwise Care policy will also enable fleets to obtain comprehensive online Duty of Care reports, providing information about driver behaviour, including journey times, road types and mileage covered, coupled with claims information.
Online reporting will provide even more flexibility allowing fleet managers to look at the information more regularly on specific vehicles or the whole fleet, print or export reports to share with the business and monitor and manage driver behaviour.
John Kitson, intermediary business director at Norwich Union, said: "We have listened to brokers in order to fully understand their criteria for selecting fleet management insurance and risk management products. The result is that Fleetwise Care provides brokers with a unique policy to offer not only a fixed premium for the two-year contract but also help fleet managers in meeting their Duty of Care responsibilities.
"In addition, having our team of specialist risk advisers on hand adds further benefits to the fleet manager as we appreciate it's not just about knowing where the problems might be but also about being able to offer solutions. It is also another example where we are giving unique market offers to our brokers first."
