"Changing Lives" was the theme of this year's MDRT meeting in Canada, attendance of which is tied to rather strict criteria.
The annual meeting of the MDRT, the top organisation of the world's foremost and best insurance sellers, was held in Toronto, Canada, on 25-26 June. 35 of the 88 AvivaSA financial advisors who won the right to membership this year attended the MDRT annual meeting, whereas only two AvivaSA representatives were present at the meeting held in the US city of Denver last year. More than 8,000 MDRT members represented over 70 countries on the first day of the meeting, which opened with a flag ceremony. AvivaSA private clients administrator Arzu Beyazit carried the Turkish flag.
"Changing Lives" this year's theme
The theme established for this year's meeting arranged by the MDRT, which has over 35,000 members worldwide, was "Changing Lives." A number of media personalities were invited to the meeting, at which Turkey was represented by AvivaSA Emeklilik ve Hayat alone. A number of very different characters, such as an astronaut who circumambulated the globe from space, a traveller who crossed the Sahara Desert alone, a representative of an association which gives aid to the impoverished in Africa, a vision-challenged child pianist, a woman who became a world ice-skating champion following knee surgery, and a man who was able to remain alive for 75 days trapped beneath wreckage of a plane crash, took part as speakers. Coping with adversity through action and how financial advisors can change people's lives were discussed at the meeting in which experience from life's events was shared.
There were special conferences in which speakers foremost in the insurance and advising sectors participated during subsequent parallel sessions, on subjects such as client management, post-sale relations, personal development, practical sales tactics, and applying the art of combat in the business world. The meeting hosted the MDRT Parade, which was attended by more than 8,000 MDRT participants with band accompaniment and which closed Toronto's streets to traffic, and continued with evening parties and excursions to Niagara Falls.
The importance of clients in the field of individual retirement and life insurance and of establishing extended communication with them was stressed at the MDRT Annual Meeting, and illustrations of how peoples' lives can change with life insurance were shared. The MDRT annual meeting, which stressed the necessity of research, learning and taking action in regard to personal development, gave practical ideas for sales, and which motivated Financial Advisors with inspirational speakers and stage performers, will be held in the US city of Indianapolis in 2009.
