Today Aviva, European leader in life insurance and pensions, has celebrated in Málaga, with Unicaja, its 10th anniversary in the distribution of life insurance and pension plans of its joint venture, Unicorp Vida.

Aviva and Unicaja have drawn up a statement of the positive evolution of its joint venture in insurance, Unicorp Vida. Since Aviva acquired 50% of Unicorp Vida, in September 2001, the client base of Unicorp Vida has doubled (+99%) and its managed resources have multiplied by almost five per cent (+467 %).

For José Luis Jiménez, director general of Unicorp Vida: “It gives great satisfaction to experience one more year in which, in spite of the economic crisis, a growing number of savers are putting their trust in us.

"The constant growth of Unicorp Vida is partially due to our standing alongside our clients, thanks to our having Unicaja’s professionals and network to distribute our products; we offer them a complete and advanced range of savings solutions, both for their immediate needs and for the medium and long term, with services for the European leader in life insurance and pensions; citizens are becoming increasingly aware of the need to guarantee their long-term purchasing power and ensure peace of mind to their families.”

According to Ángel Rodríguez de Gracia, assistant director of Banca de Inversión of Unicaja: “Since the alliance was signed in the year 2001 between Aviva, the European leader in life insurance and pensions, and Unicaja, the major financial entity of Andalucía, the results achieved by both parties have been excellent. They constitute a management model offering a broad range of life insurance, savings and pension products.

"The strength of the union between these two major companies is mainly based on the complementary nature and synergy of the experience of Aviva and the support of Unicaja, which has become well established over these years. For Unicaja, this joint progress which has won the support of our clients, gives great satisfaction. We trust that our alliance will allow us to keep going forward, sharing experiences and particularly continuing to consolidate our leadership in the field of banking insurance".

Aviva: 10 years in banking insurance

Aviva has chosen Málaga to commemorate its 10th anniversary in banking insurance; it is the pioneer of this business area in Spain and has been well established as a notable distribution channel for the insurer, thanks to the agreements it has reached with six of the major savings banks in Spain.

With a business model that has set a trend in banking insurance, Aviva has created holding companies at 50% with each of its partners specialised in the commercialisation of its life insurance and pensions. These companies cover the whole of the national territory with 4,100 branch offices. Over these 10 years, the banking insurance sales of Aviva in Spain have been constantly growing. In 2010, a business volume of €2,385 million was generated, as well as €13,971 million in managed funds.

David Angulo, corporate banking insurance director of Aviva Europa, has highlighted that: “Andalucía is the Spanish autonomous community that brings the highest business volume of Aviva’s banking insurance. In this sense, it is an important area, both for our company in Spain and for our group.”

On its alliance with Unicaja, Angulo has commented that: “Our objective is to bring value to our partners, covering and satisfying all their clients’ requirements on the subject of savings and allowing them to benefit from the experience and knowledge of a leading group in life insurance and pensions. The prestige of Unicaja and its closeness to the client, and the professionalism of the Unicorp Vida team, do the rest.”

Conference of Pedro Duque in Málaga

Among the commemorative actions, Pedro Duque has held a conference in Málaga in which he spoke of his experiences as an astronaut.

Duque commented that: “There are similarities between space travel and retirement. To begin with, both of them appear to be unreachable, but they come; and the competition is enormous, particularly for anyone born in the baby boom. Also, in both cases the key for achieving our goals is to start to prepare constantly and as soon as possible.”
