Nurses, construction workers and social workers are amongst the safest drivers on UK roads, according to data released today by Aviva.
The information was compiled using data from the Aviva Drive app to support Aviva’s new campaign which is striving to make Britain’s roads safer. The campaign is the first initiative to be launched under Aviva’s new global brand strategy, Good Thinking.*
The free app uses smartphone technology to record a motorist’s driving style over 200 miles and provides them with an individual rating out of 10, based on how safely they drive, in relation to acceleration, braking and cornering. Aviva has looked at the occupations of more than 20,000 drivers who have registered with the app, to find out which professions score more highly**.
Ten high scoring occupations as revealed by the app are:
Occupation | Percentage who scored between 7.1-10 using the Aviva Drive app |
1. Construction Worker | 68.5% |
2. Staff Nurse | 67.6% |
3. Operations Manager | 61.8% |
4. Social Worker | 58.3% |
5. Soldier | 57.6% |
6. Local Government Officer | 57.4% |
7. Support Worker | 55.4% |
8. IT Manager | 54.8% |
9. Telecommunications Engineer | 54.6% |
10. Assistant Teacher | 54.5% |
Aviva data shows that safer drivers who score 7.1 and above can now save an average of £150 on their car insurance - a discount achievable by 44% of them***.
Aviva’s new awareness campaign includes TV advertising, social media and radio promotions. It urges motorists to test their own driving skills using the app.
People will be able also test their road safety knowledge using interactive tools which will be available online during the campaign.
To generate debate, Aviva is also asking consumers to vote on who they believe are the safest drivers amongst seven selected pairings. These include mums and dads, under and over 30s, and city and country drivers. Votes will be cast via social media and at a special voting point at Waterloo station, London.
Adam Beckett, propositions director for Aviva says: “The Aviva Drive app is designed to record how safely people drive to produce an individual score for that person. There are lots of factors which affect how safely a person drives and we’re not saying that everyone in a certain profession drives in a particular way, but it’s interesting to see that some occupations score particularly well.
“People can be reassured that the app measurement is specific to the driver in question, so the safer drivers will get a higher rating – whatever their occupation. We’d encourage all drivers to give the app challenge a go to find out how they fare. They could even find they could save money on their Aviva car insurance too, so it’s well worth a go!”
